"Most of us will take so many journeys in our life times. So many people, places, nature and skies, each one painted with their own unique colours. However the most amazing journey of all, the most perplexing, difficult and fascinating is the one that takes us back to the core of our own hearts. To who we truly are below all the layers of trauma and pain that come as a parcel of being human"

My name is Neliona Moutsou , I am an integrative counsellor specialised in Trauma and Anxiety and the founder of Journey to the Heart Counselling. Currently based in Edinburgh, I provide both in person and online counselling.

Chances are that you are here because you are in a place in your life journey where you feel stuck. Perhaps you have experienced anxiety for years with Its very scary symptoms. Perhaps you have very scary intrusive thoughts that won't stop, sleepless nights, a sense that you are are floating and you are experiencing the world around you in a strange disconneced way. Perhaps you are experiencing heavily the ancxiety in your body like a constant heaviness/tension in your stomach, throat or heart. Or maybe you experience a heavy sadness that you can't shake or an inability to connect with people around you and make friends. You may also experience low self esteem and lack of belief in yourself or a loss of self, not knowing who you are anymore. Maybe you are in the middle of a life transition that has brought feelings of fear, uncertainty, loss of self or loss of motivation. Or perhaps you experience flashbacks from trauma you have experienced that you can't shake.

If you relate to any of those experiences and perhaps more, I would like to gently tell you that I am here to help you. Coming from a background of trauma and anxiety myself, I know first hand how those experiences can shape our sense of self and disconnect us from ourselves. I know first hand the very scary symptoms of anxiety that make us feel "crazy" and "broken" and that there is something wrong with us. I also know the excruciating loneliness that come with all of it.

I am here to tell you that you are not alone. I am here to tell you that your anxiety is the sign of a very healthy and highly creative human mind that has beem through a lot on its human journey and is trying now to give you the signal that it is time for healing and change.

How I can help

I use a holistic approach when ot come to my work which means that I view and I work with the human as a whole. The mind, the emotions, the soul, the spirit, the body. As a highly sensitive human myself and a highly intuitive counsellor my aim is to create a space where you feel safe and comfortable. We will then work together to identify all those parts of yourself that hurt, are in pain and want to be heard, seen and understood. My intuition will give you a gentle guidance of where we need to look at and what is ready to show up.

Together we will dive into your subconscious mind and what is happening underneath the surface. We will identify those parts of yourself that have been traumatised, those negative beliefs that have been formed from a very young age and affect your connection with yourself and perhaps the humans around you. We will identify how you relate to the world and what keeps your human heart closed and scared. We will work with those "lies" about yourself that you have made part of your identity. Perhaps it is now time to shed all of that and see and experience yourself for who you trully are.

The areas I have the most experience around and mostly work with are:

  • Anxiety

  • Trauma

  • Trauma that was created from racial discrimination

  • Depression

  • Abuse (Physical, emotional, sexual)

  • Loss of a sense of self

  • Difficulty of connecting with people
